Introduction

The effective use of human resource in any company is one of the major areas of its human Resource Management function. Since humans are the most important asset of any firm, quality firm always attempt to refine the skills and abilities of its employees. One attempt to improve the skills, ability and productivity of the employees is to offer regular training opportunities for them. Nearly all the companies today prefer to offer some sort of trainings to their employees. This paper discusses the link between training/staffing activities and the success of organizations.

Importance of Staffing and Training Strategies

Employee training plays a key role in the improvement of corporate performance. This is a tool which managers of the company can use to bridge the gap between the current performance level of their employees and their desired level of performance (Sultana, et.al, p.646, 2012). The performance of individual units of an organization improves significantly through the improvement of employee selection and training strategies. The change in the performance of one unit brings clear changes in the customer service and overall productivity of the overall organization.

Staffing research has been neglected by the researchers over the period of past few years, which makes one important factor why the organizations today face challenges with staffing and trainings (Ployhart, 2006). In order to solve these challenges, the staffing researchers would need to widen their focus beyond the individual recruitment process up to multilevel research; this would enable them to analyze the impact of staffing practices for the overall organization.

Various organizations design the staffing and training strategies for their employees, according to their requirement. (May, et.al, 2006) studied the strategies devised by the hospitals in order to meet the nursing staffing needs. The major strategies used by the hospitals in this regard include educating the nurses, paying competitive compensation packages to them and hiring temporary staff to fill the gap. Research with the help of hospital managers and leaders show that these factors solve the issues of nursing shortages to a considerable extent. Hence, it proves for hospital environment in addition to other business organizations, that trainings play a vital role for employee retention.
