Introduction

This paper is principally elucidating upon the notion that how motivation theories are related to sports and the psychology of sportsmen. When a person begins a physical activity program or a sport, this initiative is caused by necessity or by conviction, the greatest difficulty lies is in the grip of this activity in the long run. Along with this, it is recognized that the beneficial effects of any activity for health, depend extensively adoption for a long period of active lifestyle.

The word motivation has a major effect on people especially when it relates to physical activity in general. Often the motivation may be responsible for numerous reasons why individuals decide to perform some physical activity or not (Morris, 2005, pp. n.d.).

The issue related to personal motivation has achieved great importance today, and several conferences related to this area are considered as the main theme. This concern resulted in many researchers to try to find a perfect formula for motivation. Consequently, the literature is the most diverse concepts and applications for this theme. The aim of this paper is to introduce briefly some concepts and applications to motivate people to practice physical activity over a long period of time.

Concept of Motivation in Sports

Motivation is defined as the process that leads people to action or inaction in various situations. This process can be further examination of the reasons why we choose to do something, and perform some tasks with greater commitment than others. However, the motivation as a cause of behavior. The same defines motivation as some inner strength, impulse or intention that causes a person to do something or act a certain way.

People choose their physical activities or sports, as well as those involved with some degree of competence depending on their early experiences or events, situations and people newer.

The motivation driving the behavior for a particular incentive to produce pleasure or relieves an unpleasant state. The reason is distinguished from other factors such as past experience of the person, their physical environment or the situation you are in, and they can also contribute to your motivation (Roeckelein, 2004, pp. n.d.).

Motivational Theories

Public concerns about the recognition of the benefits of exercise to health resulted in descriptions of several behavioral theories. Basically these theories have been adapted or created in the interest of evaluating or proposing the accession of physical activity in people. The research in these areas is often called determinants or adherence to exercise. These studies are observational in nature, i.e., without intervention and correlated with physical activities.

How it is necessary to develop theories, models and hypotheses to help researchers focus only on variables that they believe are related to physical activity (Morris, 2004, pp. n.d.). Most formal theories and models that are applied in this field of research on determinants of physical activity are also used in other fields of behavioral study.
