Main Issues or Themes within the Article

The main issue or theme presented by Jeevan Vasagar in this article relates to the significance of Special Educational Needs (SEN). The most interesting and alarming fact that the article reveals is that one student in each five students within the classroom population of England is having special educational needs. The author of the article focused on the significance of knowing about the needs of these children immensely. Further, the author suggested that within the analysis of special needs published by Education Department, five facts remain extremely critical (Jeevan, 2011 Pp. 1-2).

Author has described the concepts of racial divide, poverty, language, travelling and prospects being bleak as the most important aspects defined in the publication of Education Department. Further, the author also recognizes the fact that all of us needs to understand the implications of medical disorders these children face in the form of learning disability. Author has also focused on the significance of the diagnosis of the disease correctly and timely. Such reasons are extremely important to analyze and eliminate as soon as possible for the purpose of saving the country's future. Moreover, the author suggests that asthma is also another important medical disorder which hinders the capability of children to learn (Jeevan, 2011 Pp. 1-2).

Lastly, the author suggests that the increasing trend of SEN from 15.7% in 2006 to 17.8% in 2011 within England is extensively alarming (Jeevan, 2011 Pp. 1-2). Author do not attempt to blame schools for this reason because he has identified that schools are not provided with any extra cash for focusing on these children with special needs. Moreover, author also suggests that children need to be carefully evaluated before labeling them as having special educational ...
