Introduction

The aim of this essay is to provide information regarding an approach of Human Resource Management of “soft-HR”. It would include discussion about how “soft-HR” can enable sustainable advantage is the industry of Tourism and Hospitality. It would also include explanation and critical analysis of soft HR approach in relation to the industry of tourism and hospitality. The major aim of this easy is to provide guidance to the management of tourism and hospitality industry regarding an appropriate strategic direction.

The function of Human resource management is extremely important for any kind of organization or business, which plays a vital part in the functioning of top management. The functions of human resource are directly related with an organization's vision and strategy (Wesiss, 2012, pp.3-4). There are two approaches of human resources including hard approach and soft approach. This paper would primary focus on soft approach of human resource management. A human resource management that is primarily based on adopting humanistic and developmental management is known as soft human resource approach. This approach tends to be more consensual and includes commitment to employees on very high level. The employers that practice soft human resource approach include high mutual trust with their employees. As a result, they are able to build and develop strong relationship with employees along with high productivity and trust. This approach perceives employees as being highly proactive. It also includes the perception that employees are capable of having trustworthiness and collaboration. It focuses on the management of human resource (Nickson, pp.7).

Discussion

The role of human resource management is very important for organizations in service sector. The effectiveness in recruiting and maintaining effective workforce would allow an organization to survive and compete effectively in the competitive environment. The industry of tourism and hospitality is growing dramatically in both developed and developing countries. The industry of tourism and hospital is highly labour intensive as it relies on the work of labour force. Employees can be seen as key force in success or failure of organizations in the industry. The organizations in the industry would require to plan and implement strategies that would assist employees to work effectively and efficiently. The organizations in such industry are least dependent on physical asset and more on human resource (Baum, 2006, pp.9). Therefore, it is highly important of organizations in hospitality and tourism industry to plan and implement effective management of human resource. Organizations should look for ways that can help to build and maintain a workforce that can help them to achieve short term and long term goals. Organizations in this industry cannot to isolate the importance of employees as it would ultimately result in failure of the organization. Organizations need to implement human resource approach that is suitable for the organization.
