Introduction

The global population is increasing at a quicker pace these days. From the times of Industrial Revolution, the growth in population has witnessed notable increases and this has gathered from the year 1700 and onwards. During the last 50 years, there has been an even more quicker increase in the population growth rate and this has happened due to the considerable increases in agricultural productivity and the medical advancements which especially begun during the early parts of 1960s and were the major causes of Green Revolution. The world population is anticipated to reach its heights in the future (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012). There, the population may decline because of numerous health concerns, economic reasons, environmental hazards and land exhaustion.

The paper presents the factors which determine the rate at which the world population is expected to grow until 2050. It also takes into account the ecological factors that will act in a density-dependent manner to eventually regulate or stabilize the human population growth. All these factors will be taken into account through the viewpoint of spatial variations, rates of fertility, mortality and other related elements.

Factors affecting the Population Growth until 2050

The current decade, along with the year 2005, is the middle of a decade which spreads across three significant, distinctive, shifts in mankind's history. Prior to the year 2000, the old people were outnumbered by the young people. Next, from the year 2000 and onwards, the young people have been outnumbered by the old citizens. Until 2007, the urban people have been outnumbered by the rural population. Now, these rural people have again by outnumbered by the urban people. There are more of working women and majority of the families are making their both ends meet with the help of two breadwinners-husband and wife both working. The population around the globe has reached 7 billion during the year 2012, according to the projections. Now, it is expected to exceed 9 billion people by the year 2050, as revealed by United Nations' official projections and estimates of population (United Nations, 2009). There are over an additional 2.3 billion people that are anticipated to increase the population of developing countries, and this is expected to rise from 5.6 billion in 2009 to 7.9 billion in 2050.

Developed and Developing Nations

Taking into view the Population Division of UN, there will be another addition of 2.3 billion people by the year 2050 and ultimately, the population growth will reach a number of 9.2 billion people by the end of the year. Out of these projections, there will be a total of 97 percent people, who will belong to the poor or less developed nations.
