Introduction

Shared family meal provides a regular opportunity of generating a shared experience, which is vital and provides a belonging sense to all members of the family. A large number of researches have proved that families involved in regular shared meal attain many positive benefits for themselves, especially for children. Shared family meal is an opportunity for sharing, strengthening family bonds, reduced risks and healthier nutrition behavior by children (Betz, 2011). However, with the evolution of lifestyle, it has become virtually impossible to take time out for such family gathering. Life has become too busy to take part in healthy activities such as shared family meals, and they are becoming increasingly rare occurrence.

The purpose of this paper is to show that shared family meals around the dinner table has many benefits to the children of our nation. The lack of shared family meals, which is currently the growing trend, could be a detriment to our society.

Because of the many obstacles facing shared family meals around the dinner table, these precious family times are at risk for becoming a thing of the past.

Discussion

The shared family meal provides with an opportunity for families to get together, talk about work and school, share experiences, make plans and truly appreciate and enjoy each other's company. However, the modern life style is making this treasured family ritual extinct. Families should give priority to family meals for the well-being of the family.
