Sociology and Common Sense

Section 1. An Observation

The notion of common sense refers to a form of knowledge socially transmitted and disseminated widely in a given culture: norms and values. Constituting a certain interpretation of reality, common sense can lead to misunderstandings due to the subject of a shared discourse. Common sense supports the interactions between individuals within a population, a set of rules that are tacitly admitted that regulate relations and to allow continuity. Common sense thus refers to a form of knowledge generally acquired through socialization, as opposed to scientific knowledge that requires the use of empirical methods. Common sense is the foundation of all truth, knowledge; however, complicate the many presumed self-evident, which are given with common sense, the truth, because they prevent additional questions (Pile, 2002).

The sociological perspective on common sense basis allows us to better understand the opportunities and obstacles we encounter in our lives. Sociology shows us that the company operates under certain rules. It helps us to understand what those rules are and how they apply. common sense understanding through sociology can help us in understanding what are the difficulties that we may find in ourselves trying to redefine our objectives and to meet these goals in a better and more effective way.

Sociology involves a particular way of seeing the world around us, a certain perspective. The sociological perspective ends up as a way of thinking, a sort of critical spirit that serves to challenge the values, standards, definitions of things, or even how to do things that we ourselves and other people take for granted. By thinking in sociological terms, we can conclude that some of our ideas that we considered natural and indisputable end up looking dubious or false. Sociologists try to ascertain the validity of claims that everyone seems to share, to be taken for granted or seem common sense, and therefore have to ask questions that may seem strange or surprising.

Similarly, the sociology alleviates us to understand that there are differences between societies, to understand the human suffering and to face the argue of vibrant in a world which are so complex and so plural. Sociological thought used to assess their true dimensions of the extraordinary variety of social organizations in the world, as well as actual and potential suffering of many people across the planet. It also makes us reflect on ourselves, puts us in a better position to identify and evaluate human suffering wherever we find it and understand that such suffering occur very frequently in the way societies are organized (Marsh, 2006).

Sociology includes the study of behaviors, interactions and relationships between individuals of the society. This field attempts to help us the organizational structure of society and the impact it has on social, political and religious ideas of the members.
