Professional social work relationship from the perspective of a client

In a dynamic perspective, that accompanies social and scientific development, social workers holds responsibilities, knowledge, skills, methods and techniques for specific intervention. This is due to the inherent academic qualification and professional performance that enables them to design, plan, organize and provide resources care at psychosocial, cultural and relational measures. These measures are essentially aimed towards the development of the living conditions of citizens, groups and communities.

As a client I would expect from a social worker to keep his composure in the face of incivility; require a good personal balance and an appreciation of his professional distance even after being confronted with sometimes dramatic situations with me as his client, without means of action at the height of his wishes (Johnson and Yanca, 1992). Further, I would expect that, He is supportive, and does not share the views, experiences, lifestyles of the other, Maintains sufficient professional distance, avoid over-identification with the client Leaves personal problems outside, He is objective and impartial when working with several people at once, Have sufficient knowledge about oneself and a sufficient degree of maturity. In any case, there are some basic principles for client professional relationship which I would expect from the social worker: Individualization, Expression of feelings, Acceptance, Attitude-free trials, Self-determination, and Confidentiality.

What kinds of things should a social worker do and say that would further the development of rapport and trust?

Social work begins when the client are included in solving their problems, this is precisely the main function of social work as a profession, and the competence of a social worker can be defined as the ability to communicate with people. Therefore, and teach specialist must first of all this. Accordingly the social work profession promotes social change, problem solving in human relationships and promoting the capabilities and skills of people in order to promote their well-being. Utilizing theories of human behavior and social systems, social work intervenes at the points where people interact with their environments.

Trust is what defines the relationship between the client and the worker, and builds a foundation for a successful relationship. Trust creates that environment which is necessary for organizations and its clients to be motivated, and to have a more openness in the organization.
