Introduction

This paper highlights the issue of informed consent and its importance for the social workers in particular. There are strict laws governing the paradigm of informed consent and the doctors and social workers are bound to abide by the same. But there are some situations, which essentially require the concerned social worker to take decisions at the instant, now here comes the legal binding that hinders the social workers to interfere in that particular situation. I have chosen this topic for its importance in the American society.

Discussion

Informed consent is much more than the simple issue of signing a piece of paper. Researchers have shown that the essential rules for the validity of the consent of the person making the decision is competent; the decision is voluntary and not the result of coercion or undue influence or captivity, and the client to know all the facts the options and risks (Besharov, 2007, 517).

With care, the technical aspects of consent to release information forms, duly signed by the client, were taken to a level of complicity. A good legal framework for consent to disclose information about clients with drug or alcohol treatment, as defined by the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services includes the name of the person or organization will benefit from the disclosure, how much and what type of information should be disclosed, and a statement that the patient can revoke their consent at any time (Kutchins, 2006, 106).
