ABSTRACT

Social work is a act dedicating to enchancing human capacity to solve difficult issues to promote humanity. Social work mainly focuses strengths, as opposed to the shortcomings, of individuals, communities and families so that these can be deployed to search more creative solutions for difficult social issues. In this assignment we will cover different social issues; poverty and social exclusion and how sociological theories will be applied on poverty and social exclusion, we have collected socio ecomomic data of a local area and have given overall statical data of it, we have analyzed the potential of group work to promote mutual aid and empowerment and finally we have discussed current social, economical and political situation of the country and described the methods used to tackle poverty and social exclusion.

The concept of Poverty - (Patch I)

In this world of materialism, every state is facing a barrage of problems irrespective of geographic location, economic power, social structure and type of government. Among all these problems, the most common is inequality (Perry, 2004). The daunting fact is that, the world is at the peak of economic liberalization, industrialization, awareness of human rights, and above all research. In every part of the world, local and international agencies are also working for the welfare of society. In spite of this, the gap is widening between the rich and poor. This can be learned from the figures of UNICEF. According to this report, some 1.3 billion people are living below the poverty line. Every year some 22,000 children die due to poverty (UNICEF, 2013). Poverty is the broad concept and at the same time is the social and economic problem. Poverty is the state in which people have not enough resources to satisfy his/her basic needs (Perry, 2004). They are also short of funds to enjoy the social life in the proper way.

Conflict Theory

Poverty is the outcome of class division. There are various classes in society which carries their own sub-cultures, moral values, and ethics (Giddens, 2012). However, the discrimination between these classes might lead to conflictions. The conflict theory addresses the poverty as the result of class division. The attitudes towards these classes can create problems in society balance.
