[Institute's Name]Anti Discriminatory and Anti Oppressive Practice in Social Work

Introduction

If only this world were a uniform and monotone place to live in, without any differences and deviations in the outlook, civilisation, behaviour, as well as the beliefs and norms observed by the inhabitants of the world, then this place would undoubtedly be a monotonous arena to reside in. it will not be inaccurate to articulate that the prime spice of this world is its different colours and its diversity, with respect to its inhabitants, their civilisation, their norms, beliefs and attitudes or approaches towards each other. However, unfortunately, over time, mankind has failed to recognise the prime aspects of the diversity rendered by nature in this world, and the respective underlying connotations attributed to it. Instead, mankind has indulged itself in to petty issues and beliefs of superiority and dominance, based on the factors of colour, nationality, civilisation, religion, beliefs and other relevant aspects. Such beliefs and attitudes have a dire impact on the practices and approaches of the people towards each other and towards the domain which require equality and homogeneity, for rendering their services.

Social Work and Person Centred Social Work Practices

Before an endeavour is rendered to comprehend the underlying connotations of the anti discriminatory and anti oppressive practices, in the social work's sphere, it is highly imperative that at the outset, a clear understanding is attained with respect to the specification of the social work itself, and the person centred social work practices. For a naïve mind, the term social work denotes the rendering of services, by designated domains or groups, regarding independence, safety and well being of the needy inhabitants of the society. It facilitates the individuals to a significant degree, to cope and deal with their social, as well as personal matters and issues. Importantly, it assists and supports the needy individuals in their crisis and most distress situations. When a person finds it complicated and hard to evade from traumatic and distressing life situations; such institutions play a pivotal role in enabling them to recover and evade from those traumatic situations.

A person centred social work denotes the working along with the individuals that require the constant support and acknowledgment of their right of living a dignified and privileged life. Working with a narrow category of people and enabling them to regain their social well being and safety. The person centred approach primarily focuses on what exactly is demanded and required by people, and the manners in which they can attain it. While rendering this approach, it is highly imperative that a set of skills and respective techniques are employed by the social workers, which will assure proper facilitation to the respective services to each individual based on his requirement and circumstances (Gollan, 2009, pp. 707).
