The Physical and Psychological Impact of Ageing

The Physical and Psychological Impact of Ageing

Introduction

Demographic trends result in inversion of the population pyramid in many countries (if even then people who exceeded the 55 - 60 are not accounted much percentage of the total population and the highest were in the childhood and adolescence, now the opposite is true, i.e., the base of the population pyramid begins to decrease by increasing its peak, where people are older). This coupled with the changes in society (emergence of organized social services, changes in the system of family organization, incorporation of women into the workplace, technological advances and new medical hasten) affects an increase of health and distribution of social services for the older population needs.

Aging is an individual and collective process at a time, in the sense that it produces in the individual but is conditioned by society, quality of life and for livelihoods .This process is presented as a complex and multidimensional reality; involves biological, social and psychological factors involved setting both its form and its content. Aging is characterized by a universal constant fact, it starts at the moment of conception and its effects are manifest in all the people who experience it sooner or later, depending on the rate at which changes occur intraindividual as well as different times of presentation of these changes. This explains why aging is an irregular and asynchronous essentially individual process.

Aging the individual and society ages, when considering the stage of aging we face a social problem of the first order, as older people as different and important demographic area with specific cultural traits, group own interests ... are requiring society to ensure increasing their welfare, play roles that give meaning to their lives, developing different to current attitudes with which order is given to the marginalization and rootlessness, insecurity, lack of quality of life and all prejudices, myths and stereotypes, which includes the social imaginary surrounding the aging process.

The resources allocated by the various actions or social policies have not increased in the same proportion that has produced the increasing population in this age group. The need arises from all countries to rationalizing expenditure and resources so that they can reach all the people who really require. Aging, seen from the perspective of an adult, it can be a still somewhat distant process, however, if we consider that multiple biological and physiological from age 30 functions begin to function with capacity is reduced, that we need to rethink the process of aging is something distant in our lives. It is therefore necessary that every adult to reflect on what this process means. To think you must know what is meant by aging and what the expected and normal changes we must face are. Only by knowing can be prepared and educated to cope adaptively and healthy way this process.

Discussion

The process of "maturation" and human "aging" in both their structures and their functions, is an individual and collective at the same time, continuous, cyclical, highly personal process. Occurs within the context of interrelationships of physical, ...
