Global Security & The United Nations

Introduction

The United Nations (UN) came into being in the year 1945 because of World War II to substitute the League of Nations. Its 51 founding countries were highly dedicated to the peace and international security preservation, the enhancement of standards of living, along with the support of social development and protection of human rights. Today, there are about 192 states that are its members. The major aim of the United Nations and its multilateral institutes is to motivate networks from various countries to work on essential issues like peacekeeping, prevention of conflict, sustainable expansion, protection of human rights and gender equality, relief of disaster, and disarmament.

The preamble to the UN Charter signifies that the organization will utilize global machinery to promote the economic and social progression of people. The representation of global machinery shows how various states are amongst the similar system and add up to its competence. The large numbers of representatives from various countries formulate networking prospects amidst member states. Member states provide voluntary monetary contributions to maintain the UN and have all rights to voice their suggestion within the meetings of the General Assembly, which is the main assembly. Other than the General Assembly, where every member state has a single vote, there are four organs that are more significant. The Security Council details out the resolutions that are related with peace and security. The Economic and Social Council promotes international collaboration and economic growth with a primary focus on developing nations. The Secretariat offers strategic studies and know-how to members of the UN and policy makers.

The research is about understanding what difference does the United Nations and its joint institutions make in global security issues that the world is facing every now and then. Times have changed and so has the way the world is operating.

Objectives of the Study

The primary objective of the research study is given below:
