Social Policy Implementation

Abstract

The social issues that the policy addresses are related to the social discrimination. As mentioned earlier, the African Americans were totally socially discriminated in American society. This includes educational rights, state services like medical and insurance. The creation of the policy was not the result of any single event. It was a result of many events. The historical reasons include Dred Scott case, the laws of different states and federation and the behavior of the society. The laws were very biased for African American and this made the African American to stand up for their rights and struggles. These African American were left with no option other than adopting the rebellion way. President Lyndon Johnson signed into law the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which banned discrimination in public facilities, such as hotels and restaurants, and also prohibited employment discrimination. The following year, the Voting Rights Act was enacted to ensure that African Americans had the right to vote in reality as well as on paper. In 1968, Congress passed the Fair Housing Act to remove discrimination in buying and renting of housing. Mainly, the African Americans were covered under this policy. The other races also received the benefits under the policy. The African American started receiving the state services like education, medical and etc. this helped them in improving their living style. The benefits to the African American people were also in monetary terms because before the policy the African Americans were not to be hired for valuable work.

Introduction

In today's world the United States of America is known as land of opportunities for all citizens of America. However, it is also a fact that the America was not a land which offers equal rights to all of its citizens before many decades because the African American were considered as less citizens in that time. The report will cover that how the America has moved from a high socially discriminated attitude to a society where every person feels secure and equal. The report will also highlight the background of the issue and the motives which provide impetus to make a policy. It is obvious that the change in the norms of the society is not a self expedite action but it takes lot of efforts. The report will cover that which leader or person has played a crucial role in compelling the state to change the policy and incorporate the demand of the people into the state the law. There is a big need to know the forces which were against the change and resisted.
