Facebook is an internet service of online social networking which enables the publishing of information (pictures, links, text, etc) by controlling their visibility by different categories of people. It is controversial because of alleged violations of privacy and the right to anonymity on the Internet. The user assigns to Facebook rights to reuse all the data it publishes. Pages and groups to make known institutions, companies or causes, can be accessed by any user, but the names of the members are hidden.

The site name is inspired by albums gathering pictures of faces of all the students, taken at the beginning of the academic year. Facebook was born in the Harvard University: it was originally closed social network for students of this university before becoming available to other American universities. The verification from the user was then made by checking the email address of the student. The site is open to all since September 2006. Facebook realized in 2012 the introduction in the original grant, reducing to 1% commissions paid to banks and getting a valuation of $ 104 billion (www.dailymail.co.uk).

As an application of social network, Facebook allows users to enter personal information and interact with other users. The information may be made available to the network concerning the civil status, education and interests. This information is used to find users with similar interests. These can form groups and invite others. Interactions between members include correspondence and sharing of multimedia documents. The firewall of some companies and schools prevent employees and students' access to Facebook. However, access to the harbor 443 (using protocol https) is sometimes possible (www.dailymail.co.uk).
