Introduction

The issues of immigrants and immigration problems exist since the beginning of times, as individuals have been moving from one place to the other and have been facing various issues and problems related to the same concept. It is eminent to mention here that the issues vary in their amplitude and direction, depending upon the tolerance level and acceptance of the individuals belonging to that particular area and also their norms and values.

Although the nature and intensity of issues has changed with the passage of time, certain issues and problems remain the same, including the issues of insiders and outsiders and also the negotiations regarding citizenship exist to date. The following paragraphs highlight the major and most important immigration issues that have been creating serious issues in the 21st century, with special focus on the issue of Mexican immigrants in United States of America:

Differentiation between the social groups

The differentiation between social groups mainly takes place on the basis of race, color, ethnicity and the place of origin, and at times the same creates serious issues for the immigrants as well as the natives. It should be taken into account that the same differences account for the creation of social disparity and inequality, depriving one particular group of all the facilities and amenities of life and thus granting them the position of second class citizens (Graham, 2007). The situation generally occurs when the natives of an area are unable to accept the immigrants as a part of their community and at the same time, the law and the constitution also fails to provide them with their due rights. The situation thus results in creation of social disturbance and disorder in the society, disrupting the normal form of life and creating issues for both, the natives as well as the immigrants. The issue of Mexican immigrants in United States of America has been considered in the same capacity, with the Americans having divided approach on the subject of immigration and thus providing diversified and different opinions regarding treating with the same issue.

Creation of segregated spaces and exclusionary powers

The issue of immigrants is known to create specific issues regarding segregated spaces and exclusionary powers, mainly based on the ownership of property and the issues related to fear and panic. It should be taken into account that the immigrants are not granted same powers of ownership and relation as the natives of an area and the same difference results in the creation of the segregation of power and creation of fear (Guatemalan Invaders Chase Whites Out of Delaware Town, 2006). The element of uncertainty and doubt, leading to fear is also included in the society because of these differences, thus damaging the social fabric and causing individuals to fall victim to various issues and problems, including the psychological problems of strain and stress.
