Social Event

The event I choose for this particular assignment is a food-sharing event named “Free Food 4 All” which is organized by a group of mothers who have lived in the neighborhood for some time now. I learned of this event while I was passing by Cheat Lake with my friends on my way to a party. I became and visited the event just to know more about it. I met the organizer and she was delighted to have a conversation with me about the event. The purpose of arranging the event was to encourage interaction among the residents living in the neighborhood.

This was achieved by organizing weekly social events in which all the mothers prepared a different meal and gathered around Cheat Lake with the intention of sharing their meals with other residents of the neighborhood. By realizing that all the residents share an interest in different types of tasty foods and delicious cuisines, the organizers of the event managed to turn the weekly get-together into a huge success.

The first question I asked the organizer was regarding her motivation to come up with this unique concept. To this, she replied that she had lived in this beautiful neighborhood her whole life and had been delighted to meet some of the most wonderful, helping and caring people. However, she had personally witnessed how the economic recession had affected the neighborhood. She explained how, she was visited in the previous summer at her home by an old man of around 65 years by the name of Ezekiel, who was one of the oldest residents of our neighborhood. Ezekiel had recently been laid off from work due to the recent economic recession and was searching in vain for a job.
