Introduction
Social class cent per cent determines a child's chances of success in school. Our society has been divided on the basis of social classes that reflect a person's position in a society. However, social class may differ according to certain regions. For instance, middle-class in a certain region could be a lower-class in other region. There are certain factors that affect a child's performance, being a member of a particular class. In any society, the distribution of wealth among individual determines the class of that individual. For the past few years, one can clearly see the inconsistencies in the distribution of wealth. The greater the disparity in distribution of wealth, the greater is the difference among social classes. This massive difference among social class creates space for many problems among society. Children are most commonly affected by such issues arising in the society. We shall discuss in detail how social class affects a child's chance of success at school. Before that, we need to shed light on the definition of social class. What is a social class and how it is determined.
The term social class can be divided into two separate words to gain a better understanding of the said term. The word “social” here refers to a person's specific attributes relative to other humans living in that particular society. The word “class” has several conflicted meanings. It refers here to a certain category of objects associated with a person or a rank of the person. Therefore, the word social class describes the category of a person in terms of his educational, economical and societal status.
