Introduction

Western countries or the western America was in the clutches of slavery since very long. The famous civil wars fought in America against the slavery in the areas. The economy of the north was dependant on the industries as well as the production in the region, while the maximum of the South's slavery was dependant on the slave and the slave's trade.

Majority of the Northern regions were against the slavery but still they were against the abolitionism movement that was drawn in order to end up the slavery in the southern regions as well. On the other hand they considered the Constitution as the binding force between the slaves and Free states. In addition, they prejudiced against the blacks that west mainly living in the South. There was no way out observed in the legal context in order to liberate the Free states.

Discussion

The status of slavery was not specified in the Constitution against the slavery in the future states. Missouri Compromise drew a line in order to segregate the free and the slave states. It say that any state that will join the Union and if lie on the south of the line will be a slave state and if added on the north of the line will be known as free state. This compromise was shattered when the new states were added to the Union during the Mexican war. Texas was declared as slave State whereas Oregon was added on the list of Free State. This created the area of depression between the North and the South. After the Mexican War ended, California and New Mexico were both south of Missouri Compromise Line.
