The primary reason for the slavery of Frederick Douglass was that he was born into slavery and servitude and saw the extreme discrimination and torture that Black faced. After twenty years in slavery, and nine as a fugitive slave, Frederick Douglass (born in 1818-1895) became known as one of the thinkers and most influential black politicians in the United States.

Douglass illustrates is that more than one way to the path taken by American blacks in their struggle toward equality. Born a slave, he managed to escape. A freedom he gets officially December 12, 1846, after its takeover by two friends with the slave owner Hugh Auld.

Soon after being released from his condition of slavery, Douglass adds its voice to that of his contemporaries who argue in various abolitionist groups.
