Strategic Plan for Developing Tourism in Slane
Introduction
Slane is a village located in Co Meath which has been known for heritage tourism .It is manorial village that is located on a hill that overlooks the Boyne River. Slane is a beautiful place that is considered as one of the finest places for tourism and is located in the Boyne Valley Landscape in the county as it consists of Bru na Boinne World Heritage Site (Graham, 2007). The village is enveloped by history and other archaeological locations .The region is affluent in sites and legends from the near past to the modern day pop shows in the Slane Castle (Mill, n.d.). All of these factors make Slane an attractive tourist destination. Tourism can be a great source of revenue for any region as it can generate employment and sustain a region for a long period. Tourism objectives are ordinarily known for a vital magnetism or movement that makes them advertise pioneers and immediately recognisable as an exciting place to visit. Their brand, feature, notoriety and promoting endeavours are constructed around that key character. Supplementary features and attractions are then advanced to give the voyager a complete encounter. Objectives need to have a differentiating mass of item and aids. The following is a strategic tourism plan for this village which looks at the current situation in detail, and what was done so far in the destination.

2.1 Lack of Opportunities in the Village
Slane is a small village and is underdeveloped. This is the reason why the employment opportunities are very restricted and limited. Lack of employment opportunities force the residents to move out from the village and go look for jobs in cities. Once they leave the village and get a good employment opportunity, they take their family with them as well and settle in the city. The major reason is that they see opportunities for career growth, good education for their children and even themselves, as well as other various benefits. There is a strong need to develop the village and create good opportunities for the villagers. If they see good employment opportunities in their village they will never leave Slane. Through proper development of the village, other opportunities will emerge like better education opportunities, better health care etc. One of the biggest advantages of Slane is its natural beauty. It can become a major tourist attraction. Further developing and enhancing their tourism sector can result in opening of job opportunities in the tourism field. They also need to promote their culture, art, and crafts, their food so that the individuals living in cities or even other countries see development potential in Slane.
