This paper is based on an article from Harvard Business Review that has brought forward the Taguchi methods into the business press in the US. Furthermore, the paper also discusses the way in which Six Sigma related to quality, quality loss function, signal to noise and orthogonal arrays.
Discussion
Most of the techniques with regards to quality have been introduced by the Japanese and it also includes total quality management more famously known as TQM. The aim of these methods is to ensure that the operations provide the best quality products that are being manufactured for the customers. With regards to Taguchi, losses in quality occur mainly because of product failure that occurs after the product has been sold to the customer. This is mainly because of robustness of the product which refers to the function of the design and rather than online control (Clausing & Taguchi 1990, pp. 66). Therefore, it can be said that it is significantly because of the manufacturing processes that failures in quality occur. For this purpose, the following are given much importance to ensure that quality of the products is ensured by the manufacturing companies.
Six Sigma
With regards to Taguchi, implementation of Six Sigma should be done to reduce all forms of variations inside a range corresponding to customer satisfaction. The juxtaposition of the two approaches, both oriented process, allows to control precisely the overall improvement process taking into account all customer expectations for quality, timeliness and cost. In this regard, some crucial points need to be considered while using six sigma processes. Six Sigma work efficient when there is a need of high production rates without changing the objective. In addition, many organizations have resolved many problems by implementing the strategies that fulfills the prescribed criteria. Six Sigma is very crucial to ensure quality of the products which are manufactured. Moreover, the outcomes will be difficult to measure, and the end results may not be in favor. The implementation of Six Sigma is very difficult due to rapid variations in the processes. Therefore, is Sigma can then be viewed as an essential step to improve customer service and overall profitability.
Quality Related To Zero Defects
Aim of all the companies that manufacture products for the customer is to provide the customers with quality products which are free from any kind of defects. As the name suggests, the companies are now ...
