Introduction

This signature assignment examines the leadership in business management and categorizes my strengths in relation to leadership. The paper includes discussion about organizational structure and models of effective organization. Moreover, the assignment aims to explain the theories of ethical leadership along with my own view about leadership philosophy.

Discussion

Overview of leadership in business management

In the contemporary business world, the only thing constant is change. The markets have become more volatile and challenging for businesses to maintain their positions. Leadership in business management is not about the personality, but the skills and abilities of an individual. Leadership is a social process which guides oneself towards exploring the use of various tactics to deal with a different situation (Gavan, 2013). Development of leadership requires time and effort that make it a challenging concept. The concept of leadership does not only apply to business, organizations, educational institutes or politics, but it is happening at almost every aspect of life. Leadership is an attribute possessed by an individual or developed through learning (Robertson and Timperley, 2011).

The leaders of the 21st century need to make strategic visions which can help to create a link between organizational strategy and individual objectives. It would to assist the organization to achieve the highest performance level. The growing interdependence of businesses and market uncertainty would result in both opportunities and challenges (Gavan, 2013). It is a false impression that leaders are always those individuals that lies at the top level of an organization's hierarchy. Leadership skills can be possibly available at any organizational level (Nohria and Khurana, 2010).

Leadership strengths

Learning is an ongoing process for both developing and developed leaders. The class learning has helped me in discovering my abilities, skills and beliefs regarding leadership in business management. The course has nurtured my skills and fostered my competency in learning new ways of improvising my contemporary performance. It has helped me in deciding my future career objectives. The level of confidence has increased along with effectiveness in communicating skills.

I used to perceive leaders as different from normal people. However, the learning has corrected my perception that leaders can be anyone who can put him/her efforts in the right direction. Learning from the experience and competence of others has provided benefits by identifying the consequences of their decisions and strategies. I have developed the emerging leadership skills and qualities through educational learning. There are few leadership skills which I initially posses. The leadership strengths would be as following:

Time management skills

Time is one of the precious belongings an individual can have. Individuals can enhance their performance and probability of success by effective management of tine (Forsyth, 2010). I possess good time management proficiency. I believe that once time is gone it is impossible to bring it back. I effectively manage my time for constructive activities which will advance my development.
