Since Shriners founding in 1872, the church supports various charities and philanthropies. In 1920, however, Shriners voted to establish its own philanthropy Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The first Shriners hospital that will grow into an international network was opened in Shreveport, La. In1922. Today, Shriners Hospital is composed of 18 orthopedic hospitals, three hospitals momentum, and one hospital providing orthopedic, momentum, and the spinal cord care.
