Should candidate for government assistance forced to drug tests?

Introduction

This position paper has given focus of attention to a very debatable issue faced in today's world. People have different opinions on whether those applicants who receive government assistance should be forced to get a random drug test or not. Government help is given to those people who are considered to be needy. These needy families include those who cannot earn enough to fulfill their basic needs. Families receive assistance from the government in the form of money or job search to ensure that they can fulfill their basic needs such as food and child education. There are many people who use this money or part of money to fulfill their need of having drugs. There are many laws that exit in order to restrict people to use the government's aid in things like drugs. Some people perceive that forcing candidates to random drug tests is against the moral values, while others think that it is necessary for the government to take strict actions against it.

According to my point of view, people getting government support should be forced to random drug tests. It's not like that I have a negative perception of those who take drugs, but I believe that government assistance should be used in a convenient way. Government should realize that the money they are giving for the assistance of needy families comes from the local society that pays taxes. It is the responsibility of government to use this money for only those who deserve them.

There are not willing to make efforts in order to deal with the problem of drug addiction. Government intervention can help these people to get rid of drugs addiction (Dannelly, 2004)

As per my research, there are a large number of people who abuse the cash from government assistance on illegal material. Rather than using this money on the fulfillment of basic needs for themselves and their family, they spend it on their luxuries including the use of drugs. I believe that if someone is having enough money to afford drugs, then that person is not even eligible of getting government's assistance. In many organizations, it is mandatory for employees to pass the drug tests in order to get a job and earn money. If people who are working and contributing to society are eligible of getting these tests then how can we allow people who use government assistance to use drugs?
