Introduction

This paper intends to talk about the significance of changing affirmative action laws prevailing within United States of America. Affirmative action laws are basically meant to provide a feeling of equality to all the citizens of United States of America. The affirmative action emerged in 1960s due to the efforts of the civil right movements in ensuring America to honor the main purpose of treating every person equally. It also provides a commitment towards equal opportunity for every person irrespective of national origin, color, sex and religion. The reason behind the suggestion of changing affirmative action laws is quite apparent. Everything changes with the passage of time; therefore, there is also a need to change the affirmative action laws for the purpose of benefitting the society more efficiently. Affirmative action laws being made in 1960s seem to lose its essence because of the underlying changes within the society.

The increased globalization, increased discrimination on the basis of gender and race, prevalence of diversity and disable people has also made the significance of changing the affirmative action laws more prominent. For the purpose of making relevant changes within the affirmative action laws; it remains extremely important to analyze different problems related to the prevailing affirmative actions and the proposed solutions to the problems. There is a need to change the affirmative action laws with the underlying changes in the society and economic situations for the purpose of enhancing the efficiency of the laws. The purpose of this paper is to make the readers aware about the significance of changing affirmative action laws prevailing within United States of America for the purpose of benefitting the entire society and the people who are being discriminated at core.

The Problem

The prohibition of discrimination in the present and the future will not be able to correct the past inequalities. Despite of the presence of the equal access, the benefit will always go towards the people that have benefitted the most from the discrimination in the past. In order to correct these inequalities in areas of housing, education and employment, various steps were taken to ensure that the people that were previously excluded would be given an opportunity to catch up. Therefore, the affirmative action are the social policies that encourage favorable treatment for the disadvantaged people in areas of education, housing and employment without any reference to the sex, religion, color, race and national origin to reverse the previous trends of discrimination and in creating equal opportunity for the qualified people (Rosado, 1997).
