The Characters

Frank Lucas was one of the largest drug dealers in his time. Frank Lucas earns his living as a chauffeur to one of Harlem's leading mobsters. After his boss dies, Frank uses his own ingenuity and strict business code to become one of the inner city's most powerful crime bosses. Frank Lucas appears in the bloody life in the story when his character slips into the guise of the cruel outlaw. His fierce frenzies are dramatic; his fervent brutal bloodshed is frightening as well as fascinating. Frank Lucas's perfectly erecting attitude, calm intuitive acts of anger, and controlled fury made the viewers head over heals captivated by the character. Even his loving moments with Eva (his wife) are appealing (Jacobson, 2007).

On the other hand, Richie Roberts is the cop that will take Frank Lucas down. In the intervening time veteran cop Richie Roberts senses a change in the mob's power structure and looks for ways to bring his opponent to justice.

American Gangster's supporting cast has their particular moments of enlightening brilliance. Mama Lucas takes away the focus from any character fateful enough to share the frame with her. She carries a wise femininity and sage radiance to each of her dialogues and scenes. Josh Brolin carries an infuriating dishonesty to Turpo, the Dirty Detective. Cuba Gooding is unrestrained and uncontrollable, tragic and flamboyant. The portrayal of Lymari Nadal of the deliberately blind wife and astoundingly fragile woman is frustrating and endearing.
