Introduction

A supermarket is sometimes called as a super-conversational mode. It is an urban retail store selling consumer goods in self-service system among which are food, clothing, and articles of hygiene, perfumery and cleaning. These stores may be part of a chain, usually in the form of franchise, which may have more locations in the same city, state, and country. Supermarkets usually offer products at low prices (Lossouarn, 2006). To generate profit, supermarkets attempt to counter the low profit margin with high sales volume.

You can find traces of the first supermarkets in the United States in the 1920s, shortly after the invention of self-service. These stores are stripped arranged in old barns, abandoned factories or arenas. The products are arranged on the floor or on simple planks of wood, with the key prices 20-50% lower than in traditional grocery stores (). Michael Cullen is considered the father of supermarket, in August 1930 he was the former employee of Kroger, opened its first supermarket named as King Kullen in New York, Queens. Michael Cullen has rented an old garage where he amassed tons of goods made by a wholesalers. He also buys cheap stocks that manufacturers are fail to sell, or their stocks are caught in the throat by the economic crisis.
