Introduction
I voluntarily work for 12 hours in a nursery setting that operates from 9 - 12. There are 25 children in the school in the age range of 2 to 5 years. My responsibilities are to create a safe, positive, and stimulating multicultural environment that fosters learning.
Personal development and reflective practice is an integral part of working with children or young people. In this paper, I will discuss the requirements for competence in my work role and my ability to reflect on practice, evaluating my performance, creating a development plan, and using learning opportunities and reflective practices to contribute to personal development.

Learning Outcome 1: Requirements for competence in own work role
My main duties primarily require me to create a safe, stimulating, and constructive environment where children can truly excel. I have to make sure that I meet the individual needs of the children with respect to their level and stage of development. Furthermore, I will communicate with the parents of the children in a constructive and positive way and make sure that I always act in the best interest of the children.
I have to be involved in planning activities as well as in the clearing and setting up before and after each session. I have to regularly attend and be active in the meetings of different nature. I will have to be an effective team member that will make sure to take out time regularly to discuss with other members the day to day affair of the setup.
It will be my duty to be involved in the activities of children and where required, I must be there for extending and supporting those activities in an appropriate manner. Furthermore, I've to ensure that the environment foster the self reliance and development of the children. I will also ensure that the equipment and toys that the children will come in contact with are safe, clean, and adequately maintained. I will have to make sure that I understand the Fire Drill Practice and comply with it when the situation demands it. It will also be my duty to keep a first aid box, daily register, and other relevant records that will be required.
It is a vital component of my job to ensure that that the standards and policies that apply to me are followed. This includes the different codes of practice, regulations, minimum standards, and national occupational standards.
My expectations about my work with respect to the relevant standards are that I'm responsible for always have the best interest of the children that are under my care.
