Sex and the City

Criticism

I have chosen the most popular TV show “Sex and the City” in order to criticize it according to the view of different critics. Sex and the City was the most popular show among teenagers as it also reflects the culture of the society, especially American Culture. The creator of this show is Darren Star and stars in this show are Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, and Kristin Davis (Alleva, 2008). These stars hit the HBO series and it was the popular show at that time.

Most of the television audience are women, which is understandable, because the sex in the film is presented as primarily an initiative and the case of women, it is clear also that the main characters of the film are women. According to critics, sexuality is a matter of extreme importance to man, but involves a series of controversies, that, even after all the transformations, which modern societies passed in recent years is handled today by many something as promiscuous and immoral, while others find it natural and healthy (Attwood, 2001). It is a provocative and controversial issue, that sexuality has been increasingly discussed and explored especially by the media, in search of hearing created tables, columns, and even programs exclusively for treating the subject that have long been silenced and kept in the private sphere of society. As a result of economic globalization, cultural and political, caused by intense development of capitalism after World War II, women gained more freedom and no longer unique elements of the home and become the part of public sphere of society (Alleva, 2008). In addition to claim a place in the labor market, the feminists demanded sexual equality, and that attitude began to call the Sexual Revolution. This movement occurred worldwide and began in the 1960s and made with that sexuality again openly discussed by people of all colors, genders and ages (Dahlerup, 1986). Around the same time, homosexuals took to the streets ordering recognition, sexual freedom and right to establish stable. Thus arose the gay movement which, little by little, gained force in society. Due to this proliferation of discourses about gender, family opened more for the subject, which again became constant in the public sphere, especially in function of media coverage. According to one of the critique, the media had a role Key to this process because democratized access to important information such as, for example, the risks posed by sexually transmitted diseases, the types of contraceptives more effective and to demonstrate the technological advances in improving of sexual and reproductive life of man (Attwood, 2001). Because of all this, sexuality became a topic of great interest public and therefore media outlets began to constantly invite physicians, psychologists, sexologists, educators, supporters or even to discuss the matter and answer the frequent questions and concerns of the population regarding sex and sexuality (Baumgardner, et al, 2000).

The problem here is in the fact that Sex and the City, as the application environment culture-discourse ...
