Prejudice, Selective Perception and Institutional Discrimination

Task 1

As I have chosen Lincoln Regional Center (LRC) for my project report and I have found this organization having a strong background and a good organization profile. I have found that several clients are supportive in making choices and decisions and, have the ability to speak for themselves. LRC is the learning center which gives number of choices for their clients to learn according to their will and capacity. All the individuals in this organization are responsible for their own learning in order to live a health life and be a part of the society in a healthier way. All the clients have the same mission to work and live with a good learning perspective for a better future. Now, I will identify and apply concepts in the paper such as; prejudice, selective perception and institutional discrimination which may either exist in this organization.

First of all, I want to share my experience which I acquired during my several visits; about the population I have worked with because, it will give ideas relating to the issues of reading assignments or diversity discussed in the society. I have found that working people in that organization are very supportive and they answer my each question properly. I would like to say that the entire society should be like this organization in which everybody respect each other point of views and, work for the same goal. The populations, I have worked seem to be busy in their daily work and, give proper time to their job responsibilities. Patients that are admitted in this hospital are also happy with the supportive staff and, they are thinking to get progress in their health. Considering the concept of prejudice, I have not found any prejudice in this organization as compared to our society. The major concept of existence of prejudice is to highlight other groups in a negative way. This will create a bad working environment in any organization. I have that in our society and institute, some people think for others in a negative way. They have made their own assumptions for blacks and Jews and sometimes mentally disable people (Bradley et al, 2011). There are the common assumptions in our society that mentally disable people are dangerous for others, though it is not true. I have found several mentally disable in LRC who are better than even other normal patients. Doctors are providing better assistance to their nurses and, look more competent than other doctors working in different hospitals. If I take the example of my society, I have found that people are doing sort of racial discrimination and making prejudice against clients with mental disabilities as White is present in majority in my society (Acker, 2011); so this discrimination mostly has to be faced by blacks.
