ABSTRACT
Alcohol and drugs often begins in adolescence and is usually associated with the enjoyment of leisure and social relations, focusing on weekends or holiday periods. Certain features of this adolescent stage can facilitate regular consumption of substances, but if it becomes abuse, it can interfere with the healthy development of adolescents. Substance abusers may be able to maintain periods of sobriety but the percentage of individuals that are able to maintain long-lasting sobriety is very low. Abstinence self-efficacy and coping have received substantial research attention as promising predictors of substance use. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate how self efficacy maintains sobriety for drug or alcohol abuse after treatment.
