Introduction

The purpose of this study is to expand the boundaries of our knowledge by exploring some relevant information relating to the methods used during the interview process to hire potential candidates for global leadership positions. The main objective of a selection and interviewing process of global leadership is finding the right person for a particular position, which meets the expectations of customers, showing an efficient performance, adaptability to change and potential for advancement without any problems. When interviewing candidates for global leadership position, it is not enough to measure the knowledge through intelligence and aptitude tests, but must include underlying elements, which allow to identify what really motivates an individual to make certain decisions, and thereby reduce the margin of error and closer to the selection of an efficient and effective global candidate. In the next section, the author will take reference from the Chapter 6: Managing competencies and discuss some important aspects of interviewing methods used during the interview process to hire potential candidates for global leadership positions and also examine the importance of the interviewing process.

Discussion

Today, companies, especially multinationals, recognize that the most important asset of their organization is its people. It is therefore necessary to adapt the interview method that will ensure the selection of the most appropriate employee for the global leadership position. The most widely used method for interviewing cross-cultural candidates is competency based interview. Competency is defined as an underlying characteristic in a person that is causally related to successful performance of the person at work. The basis of a selection system of cross cultural candidates is the ability to describe the predictors of high performance and more specifically, the ability of candidates to obtain evidence of these predictors, through the various selection activities.
