Introduction

The advent of the internet was in 1969. It is a globally spread collection of the networks that can be accessed in several different ways like gateways ISP's etc. in the present world, people have a chance to access any kind of network over the internet without any geographical boundaries limitations. That is why, it is termed as a global village. Beside the advantages of this luxurious facility, it also contains certain security threats and risks. These risks can vary from loss of information to the theft of information and many more. The incidents regarding security are increasing rapidly. Information security is the key for all the problems. Organizations want to secure their private and confidential information and the professional who know how to do this have immense worth in the market. Securities concerns are now become the most essential and core part of the network technology. They are not an issue of one time; they must be integrated with the infrastructure for complete safety.

Network Switches and Routers

The device that connects different individual devices on the network in order to communicate with each other is known as Network switches. Routers is devices that are use to connect two or more networks. A switch is a device that can be used to send or receive data momentarily using the complete bandwidth of the network without any interference. Routers is devices that allow communication between the specific networks that are your data can not be accessed by any other network until and unless that the network is configured with your router. If the Network switches and routers are used properly, they will be helpful in increasing the performance of communication as well as reduces the possible threat of network interference.

Main features and functions

A switch works through the MAC address of the computer. The MAC address is the NIC of the computers. When a computer is connected to a switch, the MAC address of that the computer is writing on the port of the switch. When the data are received on a port, it first checks the Mac addresses of the destination from the packet header. If the MAC address matches with the address of the packet, then the information in that packet is transferred to the device. This technique reduces the network traffic up to the maximum extent.
