Second Language Learning

Part 1: Obligatory Analysis

Obligatory Occasion Analysis is considered to be dealing with the analysis of the samples of learning language for the purpose of examining the acquisition order and determining the accuracy of the usage of linguistic forms by learners. It also involves the the investigation of first language initially and then focusing on the second language as learned by the learners. This assignment will focus on the same subject of second language learning. Five learners have been selected in this assignment to learn a second language that are from different backgrounds and speak different languages as their first language. The accuracy of these learners will be judged on five morphological features that are presented by Pica (Stephen, 2009). The Krashen's model has been selected to be used a s a guideline for the selection of morphological features. The selected features include Progressive (-ing), Irregular past tense, Past tense (-ed), Plural (s), and Article (a , the) These morphological features will play a vital role in the analyzing the accuracy of the learners. A brief discussion on the accuracy of the learners is presented in the following section.

According to the obligatory occasion analysis, it has been identified and discussed that there are some very important elements in the second language learning. An analysis has been conducted that involves the scores and skills of the five learners who participated in the second language learning. This analysis was done according to the model presented by Krashen for the analysis of second language learning (Krashen, 2003).

If we analyze learner 1 who was from a French background and has studied English as a second language for four years had learned English to a great extent but still need some improvement. It was analyzed that the scores of learner 1 were satisfactory in feature 1 and feature 2, and bad scores in feature 3. It was observed that learner 1 showed vast improvement in feature 4 and feature 5, but he needed much improvement in feature 3. This was an analysis of learner 1 during his course of second language learning.

Analysis of learner 2 who was from a Polish background and has studied English for 5.5 years as a second learning language also had satisfactory expertise in English ...
