Introduction

Context of Problem

Few instructional tasks are more important than teaching children how to read. It is one of the essential skills and complete conventional education is reliant on it. Many researches in this regard have attempted to define what are the basic obstacles appear when children attempt to learn how to read (Bond and Dykstra, 1997). The consistent poor performance in school and in the future career poor reading skills contributes a large share that affect students and make people believe that our school system is not enough, which in result cause lack of confidence of public in school system. Many scientific studies in this regard have disclosed the ways to teach children how to read, although all of them have not been proven effective but many of them are effective as well. In this connection, I have chosen the topic to explore what are the best practices to help children learn to read have been discovered by now and the reason to choose Mississippi is that the state has the highest rate of illiteracy in America. Thus higher rate of illiteracy in the state requires focus of the government and policy makers towards the approach of applying scientific based research for making curricular that must ensure that every child feel it convenient to read. (Chall, 1983)

Statement of Problem

In classrooms of today, teachers are more accountable than ever and are required to make decisions that ensure the quality of education. The new knowledge emerges every day, like philosophy, views and rhetoric about definitions of excellence in education. Among the politicians in Washington to the class of local teachers, teachers need to separate misinformation methods from reliable and scientifically differentiate based research claims insufficiently substantiated.

Those who are effective teachers or educators utilize scientific approaches everyday in the class rooms. They assess student achievement; develop individual plans for education, which reflect on their learning practices and views and to participate actively in research activities. Educators use experimental logic when they plan to study: they assess their students' prior knowledge, develop a hypothesis about teaching methods, strategies for development programs are based on assumptions, tracking results and creating additional instructions on the data collected.

Research Questions

The aim of this research is to determine the importance of using scientifically based research in reading education in the state of Mississippi. To accomplish this, the following sub questions will be addressed:

Is SBR important in the implementation of choosing new curriculum in reading education?

Does SBR in the selection of curriculum in reading education support diverse learners in the classroom?
