Abstract

The research topic is 'School Shootings: Fun, Suicide, Revenge, or What?' School crime policies decision was not followed by doing the school shootings. Related to school shooting incidences, different people have different perceptions The learned factors comprises of school bullying which provokes a student to look for revenge or retribution. These are the factors contributing to school shootings alerting the school administrators to take action against this crime. The school shooting can be prevented by mutual and inter-related actions and cooperation of the school administrators, parents, students, government and legal experts. Qualitative research methods have been selected by various researchers on the study of school violence. The researchers plan to conduct qualitative interviews on the topic with student victims. Therefore, this study aims to study the respondents' answers and discover the real motives and patterns behind the shootings. In various areas of United States, school shooting has been experienced. It is found that those students who are related to school shooting cases are young students aged about twenty. Through face-to-face intensive interviews, qualitative data will be gathered by the researcher. The sample will come from a group of high school sophomores and seniors at one school where a shooting occurred, and the researcher will conduct face-to-face intensive interviews using open-end questions. The researcher has chosen phenomenology research design as the specific research approach for this study. This research design is chosen to understand the students' perception related to school shootings. The sample was selected cautiously by the researchers involved interviews of 1 to 2 hours with the phenomenological research design heavily focusing on them by various researchers.

Problem Statement

Various regions of the United States have faced the cases of shootings in various schools which were brutal enough to capture the attention of the whole nation. School crime policies decision was not followed by doing the school shootings. These activities were biased towards the punitive policies. A threat to public health and welfare is made with the school shooting. Related to school shooting incidences, different people have different perceptions (Jimerson & Furlong, 2006). The main causes leading to school shootings are divided into physical, learned and behavioral factors.

The reasons for the physical factors are the personal disorders, personal complications and abnormalities. The reasons for the behavioral factors comprise of the difficult personalities, impulsive problems which turns a students into ignorant and rebellious (Tony, 2006). School shooting may also be caused by teachers' harsh treatments on children and family break-ups. The learned factors comprises of school bullying which provokes a student to look for revenge or retribution. These are the factors contributing to school shootings alerting the school administrators to take action against this crime.
