School Funding For Sports

Introduction

Life is beautiful! In order to enjoy each of the pleasure that it offers it is imperative to be in the perfect state of health and fitness, to develop a perfect physique and mental strength the most suitable and healthy option is to indulge in sports activities. Sports and extracurricular activities are of utmost significance in the life of a child. A child is typically exposed to these activities in his or her school. For the provision, of after school activities and sports educational institutes need adequate funds. Schools receive these funds from the government. But the current situation is quite bothering for parents, children, teachers and management of schools. Due to recession the government is cutting back these funds. Due to lack of availability of funds schools are considering to reduce sports happenings, which in turn, causing its effect on children in more than one ways. This paper revolves around the same issue. This paper discusses Issue of lack of funding to support sports activities and sheds light on its various aspects.

The Issue

The core problem is that the government officials believe that providing funds to the schools do not cause any positive impact. They believe that the schools are not using these funds in an effective way. Only seven percent of the school money is paid by the U.S government, whereas the rest of the money is relied on states and the tax payers. The amount that the states do not pay is paid in the form of school tax, which is part, of the property tax of the ordinary people. This property tax can be lower or higher which depends on the cost of the house. This suggests that schools that are located in posh area would get mammoth amount. On the other hand, schools that are located in a poor neighborhood would get fewer amounts. In this way extent, of provision of sports activities also varies from school to school (Tom, pp. 13).

Government officials believe that they are lending more than enough money to support extracurricular activities. The government provides funds to schools. In addition to this, they also have funds from state and federal grants. If we add these funds it would show that on an average, two hundred twenty five dollars are available for a classroom comprises of twenty five students for a year. However, a student has to pay seventy five dollars to participate in any activity of athletes. So for a classroom of twenty five students the desired amount is around two thousand dollars which is much lesser than the available amount (Jay, pp. 11).
