Topic: Examining Cynicism in Regards to Reasons for Gay Marriage

Scholarly Article

The topic of the scholarly article that I have selected is “Examination of cynicism in regards to reasons for gay marriage”. The hypothesis of the study mentioned in article is to observe various regular and unusual rationales regarding why couples get married and to settle on whether there is any disparagement regarding same sex marriage that does not subsist concerning heterosexual marriage. The study was conducted to expand the present understanding about thoughts towards gay marriage by inquiring regarding the causes following the decision of marriage. Furthermore, the aim of the study was to evaluate the possible differences between conventional and same sex marriages.

The research method that was used in the study involves an experiment in which two hundred and fifty three participants were involved. The mean age of the participants of the study was about 31.07. The participants were given two consent forms to sign. They were specified the directions that “suppose that you met a person named Joe, who is homosexual. He informs you that he wishes to get married.” The participants were required to state how much they agree or differ with declaration regarding why Joe wanted to be married. Alternatively, members of the research were provided with same directions but this time Joe was supposed to be heterosexual. Subsequently, members were provided with 11 diverse scenarios regarding Joe's reason for getting married. Such situations were produced by both homosexual and heterosexual couples in a study. Participants of research were solicited to rate how they agree or differ with each of the basis regarding why Joe wanted to be married on a likert scale from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The results of the experiment of study engaged by means of sexual orientation as among participant's aspects and scenarios as surrounded by participant's factor. As a result of the study, it was found that members were less prone to concur that homosexual Joe required to get married as he is in love. Though, none of the additional scenarios went in the way of the hypothesis of the study.

The study was planned to present people with deeper consideration and awareness that impel thoughts and judgments. The result that people might be less skeptical concerning the elements of same sex marriage rather than judging against heterosexual marriage might highlight a steady shift in outlooks on similar sex unions (Madrid & Rice, 2013).

Media Article

The media article that I have chosen for the paper was published by Miranda Leitsinger in NBC News on 26th June, 2013. The title of the article is “After landmark court rulings, opponents of gay marriage ready for national battle.” According to Leitsinger (2013), opponents of gay marriage are getting ready for a national battle to for blocking ways against same sex marriage after it was legalized by Supreme Court in all 50 states of the United States. People who were against the same sex marriages ...
