THESIS STATEMENT

“Psychological perspective of schizephrenia is concerned with type and causes of mental disorders whereas the biblical perspective is concerned with the actions of devils or sprits”.

INTRODUCTION

Mental disorders can be characterized by several features, including statistical rarity, the deviation from social norms, personal suffering of those affected, impairment of lifestyle and inappropriate behavior. However, this is merely a psychological perspective of the abnormal behavior (Spiro & Wagner, 2005). The biblical perspective differs from the psychological perspective. According to the biblical perspective, mental disorder is associated with the actions of the devil or an evil spirit, or sin and uncleanness. Modern science says that a mental disorder can be caused by quite mundane factors such as trauma, severe stress, and genetic inheritance. This paper will discuss the psychological perspective of the abnormal behavior as well as the biblical perspective.

DISCUSSION

Summary of Indiviudal's Story

The book divided mind written by Carolyn S. Spiro and Pamela S. Wagner is a autobiography of these two twon sisters. For this tasks, I have opted for Pamela and Carolyn Spiro.They were identical twin sisters. In this book each twin narrates her life experiences. Pamela was a patient of schizophrenia and Carolyn is a psychiatrist. Both of these sisters have an understanding of the disease and Pamela was experiencing first hand from young age whereas Carolyn as a mental health professional is the witness to her illness (Spiro & Wagner, 2005).

Symptoms of the Disease

Pamela does not bear the pressure of reality and cannot face the present, so she weaves a world of its own invented for her. The individual is unable to distinguish between fact and fiction (Spiro & Wagner, 2005). This was confirmed by her sister and noted following several symptoms in Pamela:

Delirium: a mistaken belief that there are things that already exist which in fact are unrealistic. Examples include the patient's belief that there is a conspiracy against him.

Hallucinations: a sense by one or more of the five senses, the existence of things that do not exist, such as hearing voices, seeing people or ghosts, and the accompanying lack of coherence of ideas and thus the lack of clarity in the words spoken by the patient.

Movement Disorder: This is reflected by increasing agitation, and a frustrated behaviour.

Schizophrenia and other prominent symptoms are manifested in the cold attitute, emotional instability, inward self image, loss of pleasure and logic.

Causes and Development

Schizophrenia showed in late adolescence, the impact of psychological pressure or emotional or social pressures. Its appearance is either in the form of a sudden, unusual behaviour or the delusional ideas and hallucinations, and either in the form of slow reactions, so that the strange behaviour of the person involves the same level of productivity and declining academic or vocational activities.
