SCANA Corporation is an energy-based company which holds assets of $10 billion. Its business include natural gas and regulated electric utility operation, telecommunications along with the other energy related businesses. Its subsidiaries include South Carolina Electric & Gas Company, PSNC Energy, Carolina Gas Transmission, SCANA Communications, SCANA Energy Marketing, Inc (SEMI) and SCANA Energy. These subsidiaries serve more than 3636,000 electric customers in South Carolina along with over 1.2 million natural gas customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. SCE&G is a principal and regulated public subsidiary of SCANA which is involved in transmission, generation, sale and distribution of electricity to both wholesale and retail customers in south, central and southwestern areas of South Carolina.

Coal-fired generating unit's retirement
SCANA Corporation is planning to retire it's up to six coal-fired generating units located at three different areas in next 5 to 6 six years that is by 2018. These units are 45 to 57 years aged and also are the smallest and oldest coal fired units of SCE&G. in recent years, the Environmental protection Agency, has published a sequence of progressively more rigorous regulations which target coal-target generating plants. SCANA Corporation believes that their initiative will help them to meet those regulations set up by Environmental protection Agency and the environmental challenges faced by the industry. They also believe that this initiative will make them the leader in non-emitting generation in the future.
These three plants employee about 170 people and the retirement of these plants possibly effect twenty positions. The company is also planning to assist those employees in finding out other positions within the corporations and recognized them as their assets who are serving them for decades. This initiative may affect those employees in different manners. Their wages or employment may get affected by the retirement of those plants. In order to take these initiatives, SCANA must have to consider the elements of administrative law that which covers employment or wages part of employment.
