Safety Conditions existence before the company sold to the new owner
There was lot of incidents in the past. Many workers were dying because of these hazards and incidents. It was necessary to develop certain rules and regulation of safety which when followed at sites reduced the risks and hazards. It was estimated that 2.5 million workers were disabled, and 300,000 cases of occupational diseases reported each year (Goetsch 53). There was the need of uniform and constant law in order to reduce these hazards. There was an act OSH to overcome this need. The main purposes of this act were to encourage employee and employers in order to reduce hazards. This act also focused to conduct new health and safety programs. There might also research work in order to improve safety conditions. The act tends to focus training of workers to know safety as to save their lives from potential hazards. The safety act prepared certain standards in the past and pressurized supervisors to monitor risks all the time during execution of projects at the site. When the author joined roofing company which was basically a construction company he observed that the company was not following standards of OSHA, but luckily there was no major accident at that time. There were no safety plans and trainings for employees. There was no fall protection on most jobs. The company also not focused on PPEs. After years companies had to see a lot of injuries to workers. Company also experienced 27 injuries in a year.
Roofing industries require a lot of safety on projects. There are always safety Engineers, safety team leader and safety manager on such sites where safety issues are critical. This is not the case in the past of the roofing industry. There were certain risks and hazards associated with the lives of workers. Safety team leader and supervisors were not actively participating in safety issues. They just went through for few minutes and passed by ignoring major issues of risks. When risks were not minimized they always created potential hazards. Risk assessment is mandatory in order to avoid any hazard in future. Risk assessment should be planned by supervisors and Engineers, supervising the labor at the site. Supervisors are responsible for the safe handling of all the welding equipments and usage of these equipments with safety.
