Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment
P1
The role of the parties can be easily understood, in that the nature of job and the roles of the various parties involved in the construction project of the new school building are to be clearly outlined, and each party should know its roles which will be clearly and distinctly outlined.
The main parties on this project are the team of the locally-based architects which will be responsible for the designing of this project. The complete designing of the building shall be carried out by the team of architects which will work towards a safe and aesthetic design which is environment friendly, in addition to being a sustainable building. The other very important party will be the contractor, who will be responsible for the overall execution of the entire construction project of the school building, and making sure that the design is implemented properly and in a safe manner, so that work is completed as per schedule and it is in accordance with the design of given by the architects.
The duties and responsibilities of the lead contractor would be to overlook the actual school building, routine inspection of the construction process until the project is completed. In this regard, it is also imperative that he makes sure that the work is completed within the time allotted for the project. The construction must take place according to the building codes laid down by the local authorities. Last, but not the least, the construction needs to be completed within the financial means available. The expenses must not cross the budget laid down for the construction of the school. The duties for me as the site manager would include supervising the project including the planning and construction. In this regard, the health and safety of the workers needs to be considered, along with making sure that the construction is completed on time, within the budget allocated and according to the local laws (Fewings, 2008, PP 32).
