I. Purpose
The purpose of the Teaching Plan is established for the staff development, as well as, to provide and promote a safe and healthy learning and teaching for health care personnel on ways to use the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It further facilitates the nursing staff in protecting themselves from the likely hazards relating to health and safety, which are linked with the management and utilization of these harmful chemicals, complicated machinery and chemicals of workplace, in a health care setting. PPE is suggested to be used in combination with controls of engineering, administrative controls, as well as, good work practices. In cases, where engineering controls are unavailable of offering complete protection, the staff members should always wear PPE (CDC, 2010).
II. Scope
This Teaching Plan is for facilitating all the staff that is working in the health care setting. In particular, this plan is suppose to address the face, eyes, head, feet, and hand protection.
III. Responsibilities
Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS)
EHRS will:
Consistently update, on a regular basis, the Teaching Plan for Safety and Health Personal
Provide guidance in PPE selection process
Assist supervisors in the assessment of hazards
Offer training for specific PPE non-routinely
Supervisor
Supervisors will:
Make the selection of PPE in accordance with the written hazard assessment. The hazards in a health care setting comprises of impact, penetration, compression, light, dust, heat, chemical, as well as biological. It is the duty of the Supervisor to identify correctly the hazards relating to each work task, and then select the employees using the appropriate PPE.
Certify the assessment of hazards, then review and update assessments consistently, or annually, as well as, when there is a change in procedure.
Offer training in suitable utilization plus limitations, as well as, PPE maintenance, and disposal
Offer re-training of employees whenever there are alterations in PPE, or when there is an employee displaying an improper use of PPE
Prohibit the use of defective or damaged equipment.
The verification of the employees should be made by the Supervisor, relating the correct understanding of training, and suitable use of PPE. It is essential that the Supervisor should keep and maintain the record of teachings.

Employees:
Are responsible for appropriately wearing and maintaining their associated PPE
Should report directly to the Supervisors in case PPE is defective or damaged
Are responsible for inspecting, cleaning and maintaining PPE
Prohibit the sharing of PPE till they are cleaned thoroughly, as well as, sanitized accordingly to the specification of the manufacturer. The PPE should be distributed for use by individuals whenever possible
Be sure to attend all training sessions in ways to choose, wear, as well as, clean, maintaining, and disposing them properly the PPE
Comprehend the limitations of PPE
IV. Selection of personal protective equipment (PPE)
