Racism in the Workplace

Summary

The article Racism in the Workplace by Aaron Bernstein is a collection of a variety of incidents of Racism taking place in organizations or workplaces. According to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the American grounds became a much more minority friendly workplace (pp. 298). In fact some American people started believing that it became 'too' friendly for the racially different people who have started abusing these liberties or rights granted to them (pp. 299).

The article reports various complaints of racial or ethnic discriminations that took place in organizations, from the highest and most renowned of international organizations like Xerox, North West Airline Corporation, Toyota Motor, etc. (pp. 299-300). In most of these cases, the victims were firstly subjected to racial prejudice. Their complaints to the higher authorities within their organizations led to no avail. So in the end they took the assistance of EECO (pp. 299) in order to help them combat racism at their workplaces. Because the matter became a legal issue, many companies either out rightly refused to acknowledge the racism claims made by their employees or had to reimburse them or pay the clients damage charges to settle the cases.

This further incited hatred and segregation between the employees themselves and the company and the complaining party. Most people were issue death threats or were constantly harassed or picked on by their companies, trying to force them to quit (pp.301).

Majority of these people were unethically subjected to racisms. Wayne A. Elliott was subjected to racism and ethics dictate that he should be compensated and looked after. His organization should be given counseling and penalized for the disrespect.
