Introduction

Ultrasound can be identified as one of the most advanced and safest medical tools, to critically analyze the sensitive human tissue. The information that easily obtained from the ultrasounds can provide the relevant health care professionals to diagnose the condition of the human body. This technology has become even more effective in assessing the medical conditions of females in their pregnancy phases. Due to the nature of the human fetus and the health of the pregnant female herself, health care professionals cannot use penetrative or physically stressful medical procedures (Beck , 1992, pp. 47). Through the technology presented by the ultrasounds the doctors can easily get a clear and comprehensive view of the development of the human fetus, and be able to diagnose any dilemmas that may be developing in the process.

Ultrasound essentially utilizes the sound processing frequency above 20 kHz, which provides a visual representation of the sensitive inner cavity of the human body. The ultrasound process includes the propagation of mechanical vibration of the molecules of a given material. The sound waves emitted from the ultrasound devices are identified through a highly complex dynamic, where the waves are generally considered as longitudinal or transverse. This identification is dependent on the nature of the particular style of vibration of the particles. The vibration of each particle either parallel or transverse to the direction of the original propagation, will eventually determine its characteristic as either longitudinal or transverse in nature (Kaur, 2011, pp. 329). The basic parameters of the ultrasound process generally consist of the factors such as frequency, pressure, wavelength, velocity, power and intensity. The ultrasound is able to be attenuated while travelling through the body due to the beam divergence, absorption, and the deflection which is caused by the acoustic energy emitting out of the beam.

Nature of Ultrasound

The ultrasound is produced due to the sound possessing a high frequency, which is present in the upper limit of the human hearing capability. The ultrasound itself is caused by the emission of particles from a given, material, which eventually passes throughout the body. The individual particles do not travel a great distance from their source rest positions; the vibration energy is propagated in the form of a wave, as it travels form one particle to another. This is the process through which the health care professionals are able to attain visual description of the human body. In reference to the longitudinal or transverse nature of the ultrasound waves, it is essential to identify that only sold materials are able to support the transverse sound waves Dietz, 2004, pp. 623).
