Introduction

Leadership can be defined as a highly personalized and a dynamic attribute, which ahs become an essential trait in various organizational sectors. In the traditional perspective the leadership qualities were considered an essential requirement for the mainstream manufacturing or service oriented industries. The concept of leadership was considered solely as a managerial entity, which was relevant to the mainstream business sector. However the recent developments on the field of health care sector have critically altered this perspective; as leadership is now considered an essential component of the health care industry (Kingma, 2006, pp. 92). The relevant [ro0fessionals in the health care industry now have to assume a very dynamic role where they must ensure that the patients receive the highest quality of medical care. In the traditional perspective re role of the health care professionals was clearly defined and the major trends in the industry could be easily identified. In the contemporary health care environment the operational environment has changed drastically, where the responsibilities of the experiences and the senior health care professionals has increased drastically.

In the contemporary health care industry the shortage of the relevant professionals has caused an increase in the influx of new and inexperienced nursing professionals. In this scenario the leadership roles of the existing staff has been enhanced, where they must guide the new employees and develop their skills, in order to help them cope with their operational responsibilities. The leadership role of the nursing faculty ensures that the new health care professionals are given relevant on the job training and experience. In the contemporary society the overall population has become very self aware and their demands toward he health care industry have grown to include various different services. The nurses and other health care professionals have to develop multitasking capabilities, to be able to identify the patient needs and be able to provide the relevant medical attention. The leadership role of the health care professionals would ensure that the relevant skills that are required for the diverse medical practices are transmitted through out the healthcare network, and every relevant professional is able to attain these training initiatives.

The leadership attribute among the nursing professionals are generally based on the two major factors. The primary quality that an efficient nursing leader must possess is the relevant technical knowledge, which will enable them to effectively fulfill the diversified requirements of their medical responsibilities. The field of health care has become highly complex and demanding in the contemporary society, due to various factors (Stetler et Al, 1998, pp. 52). The general; populations have drastically enhanced their expectations from the health care industries and the level of services that they expect. In this scenario the traditional role of the healthcare industry as standardized medical service providers has been changed to a business oriented model.
