The InterContinental Hotel Groups is a multinational company of hotels that are British in origin. The company is headquartered in Denham, United Kingdom. The InterContinental Hotel is the largest hotel company of the world in terms of the number of rooms that are currently a part of the business. Currently, the group has 675,982 rooms in different hotels that are a part of the InterContinental Hotels. More than 100 different countries all around the globe have these hotels in them. The number of hotels that are currently a part of the InterContinental Hotel Groups is more than 4600 in total. The major brands that are working under this group include Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, InterContinental and the Hualuxe among many others. Out of the total 4602 hotels that are working under the group, 3934 are operating under the various franchise agreements. The company directly owns ten hotels and manages 658 separately owned by the company (Brotherton, pp. 127-130, 2012).

The service industry consists of a broad range of fields. The hospitality industry includes restaurants, lodging, theme parks, hotels, cruise lines; event planning and many related fields. This also includes the tourism industry. The hospitality industry is one of the largest industries of the world. This company is worth a several million dollars and is one of the fastest expanding companies around the globe. There are a number of groups involved in the hospitality units. These include direct operations that further include servers, porters, housekeepers, bartenders, kitchen workers etc. Furthermore, it also includes human resources, marketing and management. Facility maintenance is also a part of every hospitality business. The hospitality industry depends upon the disposable income of users that they can spend on their amusement and recreation. This has developed on a global scale and; therefore, the hospitality industry has flourished on a large scale. Numerous important factors affect the growth of a hospitality business. These include the employees, the management, the workers, the location, the investment involved, and many other factors that ultimately influence the overall picture of the company. The employees of the hospitality industry are the most valuable assets of the hospitality businesses. The comfort and service that the customers get in the hospitality market determines the frequency of the clients that will keep coming back to the market (Yoo & Bai, pp. 517-532, 2011).

Staffing Requirements in the Company

The hotels divide their team into certain broad categories that assist in providing them with an overview about the staffing and training needs needed by the company. There is general management that takes care of the general administration and management of the hotels. Several many heads come under the general administration function. These include the front office, the restaurant, the kitchen, the house keeping, accounts and administration, bars and maintenance.
