Through out the history of the human civilization the process of developing complex architectural structures has been highly systemized and has required the application of the relevant management principles. Even in the past the great structures as the Roman Coliseum required the most advanced scientific techniques and the application of great human endeavor to accomplish the construction of that architectural marvel. Hence it can be stated that throughout history the function of project management has played a vital role in the implementation of any major project. As the human society as progressed over time, the function of project management has become more complex and dynamic in nature. It is heavily relied on the advanced scientific principles, and the process of strategic planning has become the most vital component, of modern project management.
The main objective of the project management function is to emphasize on the strategic factors of any project, given as: planning, organizing, motivating, and controlling the available resource to implement the project effectively. Project management is a temporary function which is implemented to achieve a certain goal in a specified time frame, and resource limitations. After the project is successfully implemented, the business function starts, which is repetitive in nature (Ahiable & Dalcher, 2005, pp. 795). The most important factor to consider ion the field d of project management for mega projects, is that each project is very different and has its own unique attributes. In this scenario the relevant organizations and project tea m has to ensure that they comprehensive analyze the objectives of the project and seek to identify all the important factors that influence the project. This field is highly diversified and dynamic in nature and requires a very expert and experienced team of professionals who can adequately asses the operational environment and make strategic and timely decisions. Even though majority of the mega projects have their own unique characteristics, the project management team has to apply certain standardized and systematic policies and depend on the scientific management ideologies. The project management team cannot seek to take the majority of the decision on a non scientific or informal basis, as even the slightest miss calculation can lead to a significant financial dilemma. The majority of the mega projects are also implemented in order to serve very important and sensitive functions. If these projects have any technical issues or architectural weak points the result can be disastrous, as a malfunction can lead to a major adversity (Atkinson, 1999, pp. 341). It is due to this reason that the scientific approach has to play a predominant role in any project management venture; so that the risk of malfunction can be minimized and relevant project accuracy can be maximized.
The Success & Failure of the Projects
In every major project the relevant individuals have to critically analyze three main components of the specific project, which are Quality, Cost and Time factors. The project cannot be considered as effective or ...
