Introduction

The aim and objective of this film module essat is to discuss and analyze the two famous movie “freedom Writers” and “The History Boys” from educational point of view.The essay basically provides an overview of these two movies. I have tried evaluating the movies on the bases of racial and social aspects taking into consideration nearly all the factors. First of all, the evaluation of Freedom writers is provided.

Freedom writers

Freedom Writers is a movie about an idealistic and determined teacher who converts the class of youths. The movie gives a positive and uplifting moral message to the youth class. The movie is based on a true story. Freedom Writers was released in the year 2007 based on a book “The Freedom Writers Diary”. Its story line is based upon the events that took place between 1993 and 1996. Its plot basically depicts the racial and social differences prevailing in the society. So much so that the first scene of the movie starts off with the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The movie tried to provide a comprehensive understanding through a well documented context. It catered for both social and racial issues. Along with the basic plot the movie, glimpses of the Rodney King incident was highlighted. In which as African-American construction worker had been severely beaten by a group of on-duty police officers and four of them were accused of man slaughter (Nyoman, N. 2012).

The concept of racism was introduced with the utilization of concept of belonging. Belonging has a direct link to the racism. Until and unless someone feels the need to differentiate himself on the bases of race, culture, religion or ethnicity, the element of racism would be negligent. This has been highlighted throughout the film. The events which unfolded between the years of 1994 and 1996 have been shown to be the result of the incidents that took place in the years 1992 and 1994. The Rodney King incident belongs to the year 1992 and OJ Simpson murder case of 1994 respectively. These incidents hold huge significance as they have thought to give birth to a number of sensitive issues of mistreatment of individuals having different backgrounds. The famous dialogue which Marcus says was “I've never had a hero before. But you are my hero”.

It was proven that even in 1992 through the movie that a person's colour would also have an impact upon your judicial rights. As it was shown that even after the brutal beating that Rodney King received at the hands of the policemen, he was still shown to have been fault and accused of not following the speed regulations. Furthermore, the film is majorly shot at Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach. The school had a pleasant background and it was looked as a high achieving school.
